How to edit HTML and add style to your posts - advanced editing made easy!

So you want to touch your posts and customize them, give them that unique style, right? You've reached the limits of the online editor or you're just not comfortable with it? Well hang on because you're barely a click away from the wonders of HTML...

You can easily edit the HTML code that shapes your posts. Just look below the Excerpt or body text area and you'll notice a checkbox View Source. This checkbox when ticked/unticked allows you to swap back and forth between two views:

  • the WYSIWYG view (what you see is what you get) displays posts as they will appear when published,
  • the source view shows you the HTML code (hyper text markup language)and allows you to edit it at your own discretion.
And, presto, that's pretty much it. All you have to do now is get a good book or website about HTML and dig in. Enjoy!

How to create a profile?

So you've seen all those faces at http://blog.com/facesofblogs and you want to have your own?

Once again our blogtastic tutorial is going to show you how to create a profile and publish to virtually any blog you wish.

1. Login to your blog editor and choose the Sidebar tab in the topmenu. This should bring you to the page shown in the screenshot left.On this page, you needn't choose any specific blog in the drop-downlist, as profiles are "blogwide". Point to the submenuitem "Profiles".

2. This'll take you to the Profile list page (as seen in the screenshot right). This page allows you to create a new profile or edit existing ones. Should you choose to create a new one, the profile list page reloads with your new profile at the top of the list. You can already upload an image for the given profile by clicking on upload photo.

3. Editing your profile: click on the link Edit. This will take you to the Profile editor. This page has 3 parts. 3.1 The first part allows you to edit basic profile fields such as name, and location. Make sure to click on edit profile to save any changes you may have made to those fields.

3.2 The second part isn't operational yet but should be underway very soon.

3.3. Associate your profile to any blog: at the bottom of the same page, you can associate your profile to as many blogs as you wish. But bear in mind that a blog can only have a profile. That means that if your blog "A" already has a profile and that you've just associated it to a new profile, "A" will no longer be associated to the former profile.

And you're all set to have your own profile. Now check out http://blog.com/facesofblogs to find your face!

How to create a blogroll?

Firstly, what is a blogroll?

It's one of those boxes you can have in your sidebar and that includes links to other websites, usually blogs although of course it's all up to you what you link to. It's an easy and friendly way to interconnect your blog with those of your friends & family.

1. Login to your blog editor and choose the Sidebar tab in the top menu. This should bring you to the page shown in the screenshot left. On this page, make sure you choose the right blog in the drop-down list, in the case you have several blogs. Then point to the submenu item "blogrolls".

2. The page that comes up displays the list of blogrolls you already have. In the list you can manage each blogroll and delete/rename or manage each blogroll. The manage link takes you to the page where you can blog links (see further down). At the bottom of this page, you can also create a new blogroll by entering a blogroll name and clicking on "New Blogroll".

3. Whether you click on Manage in the blogroll list for a given blog, or whether you click on Create blogroll in the bottom part of the page, your browser will take you to the page shown in the screenshot left. On that page, you can add links to just about any website, weblog, image... You name it!

4. Lastly, you can move a link from one blogroll to another. Nothing's simpler. Just click on move that'll bring to the page shown in this last screenshot. You can select the target blogroll in the drop-down list.

Now wasn't that easy? Somethin still not clear? Care to share your experience? Feel free to comment!

How to create a link...

There are three ways to do this. Please refer tohttp://our.blog.com/album/85437/ for screenshots of what I'm discussing below

  1. The simpler way consists in using the functionalities provided by the post editor. One of the buttons (see screenshot in the album above) is a shortcut for inserting a link. First select a word or a set of words in your post and then click on the button. A Javascript window will pop-up and prompt you for the link you want to add. Just fill it in and click OK. You're all set.
  2. But what if you want to do it manually (you have a huge amount of links for example). Just tick the option view source (once again view screenshot) and edit your HTML code there. More information about the link tag ? Check this page out: http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/struct/links.html
  3. Return to the normal editor by unticking the view source option. You can directly paste a link you copied from another web page by clicking in the editor zone and then pressing the Paste shortcut (i.e. Ctrl+V with your keyboard).
Useful, unclear, neat ? Give us your thought in the Comments zone.
