Summer Feature Photo
August has slowly settled in, and as heat waves are rolling all over Southern Europe, cities announce record-breaking highs which makes me feel more and more grateful I'm sitting right below the AC.
The high temperatures we've been witnessing lately (some 37º C, nearly 100ºF) enticed me to browse your photos and look for a cooler place, somewhere up north, somewhat closer to the North Pole. It had to be a vibrant place, a mixture between culture and night life, a delicate balance. And I finally found what I was looking for while browsing http://elciojunior.blog.com/. Icame upon a picture of a city - not just any city - Amsterdam, queen of canals, and the Dutch nation's capital.

Icame upon a picture of a city - not just any city - Amsterdam, queen of canals, and the Dutch nation's capital.

The picture, with its vivid colors, its light-blue sky, and the canal bordering the century-old brickhouses appealed to me. The equilibrium between the bright bricks and the sapphire sky seemed inviting indeed. I could simply and quite easily picture myself right next to the canal and sip on a Hoegaarden, this fruity witbier (white beer) from Belgium usually served with a slice of lemon bobbing about the foam. Who wouldn't appreciate this?
It sounds perfectly lekker. So here's prost to you, and wherever you're spending your summer vacation, enjoy every last bit! And dont't forget to send us those summer pics. After all, who knows, a photo contest might be coming up soon!
